Both are fine, and plenty of people own both. The right pick depends on where you listen, how long, and what you are doing. These are the trade-offs that matter.
Earbuds: small and portable
True wireless earbuds fit in a pocket and are easy to carry. The battery is split between the earbuds and the charging case: a listing might say "10 hours per charge, 30 hours with the case", which means the case recharges the earbuds about twice. Fit is personal, so check for different ear tip sizes.
On-ear and over-ear headphones: longer battery, more comfort
Headphones have more room for a big battery, so listings often claim many more hours. They are also easier to put on and take off, and some people find them more comfortable for a full day. The downside is bulk.
Noise cancelling
Active noise cancelling uses microphones to reduce steady background sound, like an engine or an air conditioner. It works best on constant low sounds and does less for voices. Hybrid noise cancelling uses microphones inside and outside the ear cup. It also means a bigger battery draw than a model without it.
Gaming
For gaming, look for a headset with a microphone and comfortable ear cups, since sessions can run long. Surround sound modes are a matter of taste.
What to check in any listing
- Battery: hours per charge, and how many extra charges the case holds.
- Calls: a built-in microphone, and whether noise reduction is mentioned.
- Connection: multipoint lets you stay connected to two devices, such as a phone and a laptop.
- Fit and weight: comfort matters more than a spec sheet suggests.
- Return policy: useful for anything you wear.
